How red light therapy works.
Full-body red light therapy (RLT) uses low levels of red and near-infrared light to penetrate the skin and underlying tissues. These wavelengths are absorbed by the mitochondria — the "powerhouses" of cells — which may help improve cellular energy production (ATP), reduce oxidative stress, and support the body's natural repair processes. Unlike tanning beds, red light therapy does not use ultraviolet (UV) light and does not tan or burn the skin.
